Burkina Faso: recycling plastic waste

Plastic wastes as far as the eyes could see. The green belt of Ouagadougou, which was the « lung » of country has disappeared. Actually the place is littered with the plastic bags that the people like to use when shopping. The consequence of this is that the city is stuffed with plastic waste. At the center of disposal and recycling of organic waste, 300 thousand tons of garbage arrive here every year. That means about 800 tons per day. Plastic litter represents 20% of the collection of waste, which means 60 thousand tons every year. This is a genuine ecological disaster when you know that wastes have a lifetime of at least 500 years.
